Ann-Marie J Grant

Ann-Marie Grant is the Executive Director of the American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI),a nonprofit organization in the USA which supports growth and development of The University of the West Indies (UWI), recently ranked in the top 4% of universities in the world with locations in 17 countries in the English-speaking Caribbean. Under her stewardship , the portfolio of scholarship recipients has grown exponentially from 6 awards to an average of 50 tuition scholarships annually and approx. $7.5M of in-kind donations to The UWI across the region. The in -kind donations include computers, medical accessories, books, dental equipment and furniture.

She has played a pivotal role in securing strategic partnerships with several tier one institutions and currently a Co- Director of the SUNY UWI Center for Leadership and Sustainable Development (SUNY UWI CLSD) – a joint pioneering collaboration between the State University of New York (SUNY) and The UWI. The CLSD seeks to promote leadership and the attainment of the 2030 United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals in the Caribbean as well as in New York state; which is home to the largest Caribbean Diaspora population in the USA. In addition to co-hosting several symposia and public forums on key issues germane to the development of the Caribbean, Ms. Grant played a key role in the launch of the CLSD’s first joint academic program,ie the Advanced Certificate in Leadership for Sustainable Development. The first cohort of students was accepted in fall 2019. Ms. Grant has proven expertise in aspects of commercial and retail banking, administration in business services, remittances and support for the marketing of telecommunications. She has earned a reputation for being solution oriented with exceptional leadership, people and public relationship skills.

Her involvement in voluntary service to community began at an early age and has remained at the core of her personal development. From being a Girl Guide in elementary school visiting sick kids in hospital , teaching adult literacy classes, serving as a Red Cross volunteer and a United Way Board member in Jamaica to membership on several nonprofit organizations boards in New York City, her dedication to the service of others is steadfast.

In recognition of some of her outstanding accomplishments, Ms. Grant is the recipient of several community service awards including from NY State Senate, NY City Council and the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce. and the Mustard Seed Communities. She holds a BSc. in Management Studies from The UWI, Jamaica, a post graduate certificate in Human Resource Management and an MBA from Nova SouthEastern University in Florida and a MSC in Non-Profit Leadership from Fordham University in New York.

Ms. Grant is the devoted mother of a teenaged college student to whom she attributes the source of her optimism and the fuel for her passion for life. “I am very excited about the wonderful possibilities and opportunities for the future, in particular, as they relate to the collective talent and potential for advancement of the peoples of the Caribbean region and its diaspora here in the USA. I truly believe the best is yet to come.”
